Dookie Open Day to be held on Wednesday, 18th of October 2017.
24/9/2017Become a part of the University of Melbourne’s Dookie campus and experience the most current research and education in animal and plant cultivation and agriculture business studies.
Take advantage of the Dookie campus facilities measuring 2440 hectares and currently the biggest campus in the southern coast.Meet the community of campus students from diploma to PhD studies and taste wine, beer and cheese as well as engage in university activities.
Explore the robotic dairy
The robotic dairy of University of Melbourne at the campus enables research contributors to experience first hand the ways this technology operates.
The outcomes of this research project have been astonishing--Dookie was ranked by Dairy Australia among the greatest 100 in the country on the basis of yearly average milk cell numbers for the year 2015-2016.
The health condition of each cow is closely monitored and measured the moment she is milked in order to find out any early signs of disease. The cows also have the choice when to be milked and feedlot rotation happens automatically. Seize the chance to see how this works at the Dookie campus day!
Observe how the new agricultural technologies function!
Staff will be showing the function of new technologies like drones which check plant health and a weeding machine that works using microwaves replacing pesticide use.
Test the wine and beer produced on Campus
Dookie owns one of the most historic wineries in Victoria with state of the art tools to enable students at University of Melbourne to produce a range of wine styles every year.
During 2017, they’ve also introduced brewing equipment to enable students to learn the art of beer brewing, acknowledging its taste attributes and marketing it to a country with an insatiable thirst for craft beers.
Seminars and research displays
The faculty of the Veterinary and Ag sciences boasts over 200 research associates and students operate on animal welfare practices, disease prevention, plant welfare, food technology, vet medicine, farm administration and more.
Dookie will hold free workshops on mastitis treatment, sheep footrot prevention, sheep progeny assessment and more with established agricultural and veterinary science researchers.
Sensory experts will also show the ways in which the most current technology calculates biometric responses to food and contributes to a better understanding on why people like specific foods.
Research students will demonstrate their projects and explain the ways their projects add to agricultural productivity, human, and animal welfare.
Explore the campus and get to know the students and the animals
More than 80 students live on the Dookie Campus--from diploma students to PhD. They examine the ways farms operate, natural administration of resources, and basic science and business. PhD level students can also explore the 2440 hectare campus space to perform experiments for the development of crop produce, control of pesticide use, and development of more robust crops.
Students of the second year of Bachelor in Agriculture have the choice to continue their studies at Dookie for a semester and learn the agricultural technology and science within farming.
Students of the Diploma in General Studies will acquire a basic knowledge of science, academic interaction and business on campus facilities in an encouraging environment and small groups that will set the ground for further academic education.
Each year hundreds of students of the Uni go to Dookie for a short term period intensive classes, wine and brewing matters, land administration, animal treatment, viable development, and safety guidelines in regions of conflict.
The University also offers upgraded student accommodation and teaching facilities to make sure that students experience a convenient and encouraging time--that features the renovation of a Swinburne Hall and Dorm A upgrades as well.
The campus invites you to explore the campus accommodation and teaching rooms and the join the students who already stay on campus. For more information, check the link on the university’s website.
