Young Farmers prepare for the Business of Agriculture

13/7/2017

The young farmers in the New South Wales region will now be able to participate in workshops to help prepare them for bank and business aspects, after getting $6M in grants for 4 years through the Young Farmer Business Project.

The goal of the project is to help the next crop of farmers access and develop their business skills in the agriculture field with a strong concentration in developing management and decision/making skills.

Tim Carroll, Young Farmers association chairman has revealed that their workshops will support young farmers to expand their knowledge on banking processes and approaching a bank for funding. He also expressed his doubt whether these things are taught in schools or Universities.

The program stems from the joint efforts of a 2016-17 pilot project between NSW, DPI, and Young Farmers Council Association with the goal to raise the number of young people choosing to follow an agricultural field across NSW.

The pilot project turned out to be a success and has shown the interest of young people across New South Wales to become a part of this initiative and expand their business skills in agriculture further.

Mr Carroll has commented that the former project managed to reach successfully 1500 people in the course of 12 months.

The workshops were spread across the states at regions which featured Wagga Wagga, Sydney, Dubbo, Armidale and Narrabri.
