The Young Farmer Business Boot Camp is now open for registration to young farmers from across the Wimmera area. The two-day intensive program includes expert advice and presentations as well as activities and a chance to network with professionals and peers. The program takes place in Kaniva from February 28 – 29.
The program is aimed at young people who are committed to a career in beef, sheep or the mixed-farming sector. It explores business and career planning and how to develop strategies to grow a farming enterprise.
Participants of previous Boot Camps have been taken away a host of useful tips that have improved their day to day business practices.
Sarah White a North Eastern Victorian cattle breeder who attended the Benalla program was introduced to the concept of partial budgeting which has helped her improve her business practices. This, combined with the knowledge of how to undertake long-term business planning such as a five-year cash flow, has focussed Sarah on where her business is headed.
“The accountants and banks are always asking for one-year cash flow, but the boot camp got us doing a five-year cash flow which was fantastic because it gives you a vision of where your business is going.”
Business Advisor Paul Blackshaw is one of the experts that will be on hand at the Boot Camp to run the workshops. Paul works for Meridian and will be interacting with the participants to demonstrate a range of planning tools that they can use to apply the learnings directly to their businesses.
The program fee is $100 for the initial representative of a business and an additional $50 for any more participants from the same farm. The price includes course materials and meals.
Registrations are now open online at agriculturevictoriaevents.eventbrite.com.au.
