The Rotary Club of Narromine provided an opportunity for 16 secondary students from across NSW to get first hand experience in the cotton industry.

The 3 day camp that has been running for 5 years sees the students visiting farms and cottons gins as well as the Narromine Irrigation Scheme.

Camp founder and coordinator, Geoff Smith, said the camp is to give students a taste of what working in the different aspects of the cotton industry entails.

“It’s mainly to introduce kids who don’t know a great deal about the cotton industry and what it’s all about, and hopefully they’ll go on to tertiary education in agriculture of some form and/or join an agricultural business,” he said.

One student Stephanie Davies, Grenfell, said the camp was a real eye-opener.

“We are wheat and sheep farmers so learning about cotton has been a huge eye-opener, it’s so different,” she said.
