It’s one of the best times to start a career in agriculture according to the National Center for Vocational Education Research’s study. The findings show that managerial jobs in the agricultural industry are expected to have openings of 10,100 each year for a total of 81,000 jobs by the year 2024.

David Littleproud the Minister of Agriculture is thrilled with the evidence that the future of agriculture looks very bright. He remarked that farmers are the backbone of many of the regional communities, supporting a lot of the local jobs, also providing the social fabric of the rural towns.

Not only will traditional farming jobs be on the rise but also associated jobs. Jobs in the mechanical field, in the IT field and in business will also see growth in the agriculture industry. There are also many specialised skill areas specific to the Ag sector that will see an increase in career opportunities.

Littleproud explained that Farmers have always been innovators. Advances in smart devices, drones and science are now playing key roles in farming, allowing farms to become more efficient and more profitable. While many people feel that technology and innovation work to reduce jobs on farms, the opposite is actually true, with new technology and innovative more jobs will be created for this areas.

The Federal Government is currently working to ensure that these job opportunities are taken full advantage of. Research and development are underway to improve productivity and profitability. Free trade agreements will also offer new markets for local produce to enter. This could lead to more jobs in those markets as well. The research shows that these changes could help to lift the Australian agricultural industry to a $100 billion industry by the year 2030.

More and more young people are now interested in agriculture as we see that the industry is booming. No longer is farming about hard work toiling away at tilling the soil. The farm has become a hotbed of technological innovation and as such the farming industry increased its appeal to a wide audience of job seekers. By the time a young person is finished with college changes in the industry will result in even more types of jobs.

With around 134,000 farm businesses in Australia, of which 99% are family owned and operated, we are big on farming. Each farmer can produce food to feed 600 people both at home and abroad. 93% of the country’s produce is grown locally. The current agricultural supply chain provides more than 1.6 million jobs to the economy. And this is just a part of the picture. This doesn’t speak to exporting of produce which is another huge industry along with forestry and fisheries sections of agriculture. The sky is indeed the limit when it comes to the potential growth of jobs in the agriculture industry in Australia. Young folk looking for a promising future and a fulfilling career can be certain that choosing a job in the field of agriculture will be a really great decision.
