Farm Safety winners at Ashgrove Dairy: Farm Safety Week 2017:
20/7/2017On a dairy farm hazards can be plentiful. Troy Ainslie the operations Manager for Ashgrove Dairy shares how they won the Dairy Safety Award at the annual Tasmanian Dairy Awards.
At Ashgrove, managing risks starts before you even step foot on the farm.
“We have big signs out front of the farms listing the major hazards on the farm and visitors are not allowed in until you’ve contacted the number on the board,” Mr Ainslie said.
Employee training was also a large part of mitigating accidents on the farm. Troy focuses on creating a friendly, happy workplace and delegated tasks according to different employees’ skill levels.
Ashgrove keep staff training registers to keep track of where each members’ skills are at and to see if they need further training.
“Phillip John from Safe Farming Tasmania has been excellent,” Mr Ainslie said.
Mr John is the senior work health and safety consultant leading the Safe Farming Tasmania program who visits farms to provide free advice to farmers.
