The first class of interns to finish Meridian Agriculture’s inaugural Livestock Consulting Internship program has recently graduated their two year studies making a significant start in their career choice as livestock experts.
The program featured nine intern students who began their studies in 2015 and graduated in a ceremony accommodated by Meat and Livestock Australia in Sydney, after finishing internships with livestock consultant companies that were involved with the program.
The internship project was supported by MLA Donor Company which plans to promote the new supply of consultants in the industry through an extensive program that pinpoints the value of livestock consulting companies that hire entry level workers.
Christine Pitt, MLA Donor Company executive officer, has commented that following the success of the first phase of the internship program, support for a second phase has been approved with a new set of 10 intern students.
She added that a formal mentoring aspect has been implemented for the first class of interns who completed the program last week matching the new students to industry offers of help and support.
Livestock consultants need up-to date knowledge of the latest studies and technology to assist making their clients competitive.
The program offers substantial personal development help, practical skills, and entrance to the networks of the industry while the interns earn a Graduate Certificate in Agricultural Consulting.
Industry projects that are taken over by the intern students included among others researching for cattle shrink in sale yard situations and an analysis of adult education within the producer group approach.
